The mother-of-two who and vice-chairman of West Ham football club told a magazine that one of her biggest personal errors was failing to spend more time bonding with her daughter Sophia, who is now 14.
Karren Brady with husband Paul Peschisolido and children Sophia and Paolo asked about going back to work so early after childbirth, Miss Brady, 41: 'That was shameful, really. It was a mistake and most people would look at it with shock, as they should.
'When you're young and in a career you don't realise it will last a lifetime.
'You think it will slip through your fingers if you take time out. I was trying to do it all, up all night with the baby and at work all day. That doesn't work.
'When [my 11-year-old son] Paolo was born, I took longer off and worked from home when I could.
'I tried bringing both children to the office but that didn't work out. I had to have full-time help in the end.'
Miss Brady also said sha has only had three holidays in 15 years, one of which was her honeymoon.
Her comments seem to be at odds with the feelings of her new co-star, Lord Sugar, who says 'We have maternity laws where people are entitled to too much.'
When asked on his comments, Miss Brady said that bosses should 'accept that at some point almost all women want to have children – to me it's never an issue, because I have two children, and I work.
'I always say, women have brains and uteruses, and are able to use both.'
The businesswoman, who will replace Margaret Mountford on the new series of The Apprentice, said: 'On the rare occasion I did go away, I'd always be working, on my laptop or BlackBerry, and almost never left the room.'
But she has been enjoying more holiday time recently. She said of a recent holiday to Mauritius: 'Although I did take my laptop, I didn't even turn it on.'
