National Obesity Week calls for supporters of children

www.grub4life.com today reports that National Childhood Obesity Week launches in less than two weeks time.  The Week, which runs from 5th – 11th July, has been organised by MEND and the National Obesity Forum to raise awareness of childhood obesity and the effect this epidemic is having on the lives of children across the UK.
30-06-2010

Childhood obesity poses one of the most serious health risks to our society. Currently nearly one in three ten year olds and over a fifth of four year olds in the UK are either overweight or obese and it has been estimated that by 2050 the health complications connected with obesity will have toppled the NHS.

MEND and NOF are calling on our new Coalition Government to announce its strategy for tackling the childhood obesity crisis. We are asking the new Government to use the Week to set out its short and long-term vision for reducing childhood obesity levels and to pledge its commitment to tackling this issue.

The health complications caused by widespread child obesity are likely to have a significant effect on both the NHS and other health organisations. For this reason MEND and NOF are asking you to show your support and get involved with National Childhood Obesity Week.
